The capital of Santorini

The capital of Santorini is Fira. A traditional settlement, “Firá” derives its name from an alternative pronunciation of “Thíra”, the ancient name of the island itself. (from Wikipedia)

Fira, the capital of Santorini island is located on the top of the “Caldera” Cliffs overlooking the volcanic created islands of “Palea” and “Nea” Kameni, the island of Therassia and the world famous Santorinian Sunset.

The Views of the Aegean Sea, the white washed buildings on the cliffs as well as the cosmopolitan life of Fira are few of the elements that among many others established Santorini as one of the most desirable travel destinations.

Santorini is a reference to Saint Irene, from the name of the old cathedral in the village of Perissa. Before then, it was known as Kallíste (“the most beautiful one”) or Strongile (“the circular one”) or Thera. (from Wikipedia)
